Influenster Mary Kay VoxBox

Hey all!  I got sent the Mary Kay VoxBox from Influenster earlier this month.  I was so excited and impressed by the number of full size products that were sent.   I did not purchase these items.  As stated previously, the items were sent from Influenster, which can be found here if you’d like to sign up to try to receive products to test out.  Swatches will be at the end!

  • Powder Brush – Although this brush looks nice, and even looks like it would be soft…it definitely isn’t.  This was a scratchy mess.  I tried using this with face powder, bronzer, and blush…all of which ended up looked terrible because this does not apply or blend product at all.  I would not recommend this brush.  There are so many other very soft face brushes I would recommend from the drugstore…which are way cheaper than purchasing this would be, such as anything from Real Techniques or EcoTools.  This sells for $16 on the MK website…way too expensive for a brush that is so scratchy and does not apply product well.

  • Concealer/Eye Color Brush – I don’t really use brushes like this for concealer, but I did use this with the cream eye color…which actually turned out to be the best use for it.  This allowed the otherwise sheer cream eye color to apply with more pigmentation and layering.  I would recommend this brush.  This sells for $10 on the MK website, and while it’s not too expensive, I do think this is a tad pricey for what this does since you could easily find a dupe in the drugstore which is more readily available.

  • Bronzing Powder in Light/Medium – First off, the imprint on this bronzer is very appealing with the waves.  It makes me think of some of the Estee Lauder and iT Cosmetics bronzers I have seen recently.  I know that doesn’t apply to the usability of the product, just a nice little side note J  Anyway,  this is a nice light bronzer which applies and blends very smoothly.  There does seem to be a tiny amount of shimmer, but this gives more of a natural glowy look when applied instead of a sparkly craze.  I would recommend this bronzer, but on another note, I wouldn’t have paid the $18 it sells for through Mary Kay.

  • Mineral Cheek Color in Shy Blush – This is like many other run of the mill peachy blush with golden shimmer…supposed to be a NARS Orgasm dupe.  Although finding a blush like this one is pretty darn easy, I did enjoy this and found it to add a beautiful glow with the right amount of pigmentation.  This also blends very nicely.  While $12 is not the least expensive, it’s also not the most expensive like high end companies.  I think this is a good price for a nice quality mid-range blush.

  • NouriShine Plus Lip Gloss in Mango Tango – I enjoyed the formula of this lip gloss.  It wasn’t sticky, but it still provided a nice medium thickness texture to make my lips feel comfortable and moisturized.  However, the color in Mango Tango was definitely not for me.  While I enjoy the occasional bright lip, even orange, I did not like this color.  These lip glosses sell for $14 on the MK website, and I would say maybe.  If the color was better, I would consider buying a replacement upon finishing it, but I won’t be using this color much.  Maybe I will purchase a different color sometime in the future.

  • Translucent Loose Powder – This powder was a decent transculent setting powder.  It did apply without giving the face a strong white appearance, and blended out quite well.  As for shine control, this was a little above the average face powder…but nothing compared to an actual shine control powder.  I think $16 is a little steep for this since there are so many cheaper alternatives which perform very well.  End piece…I think the packaging is crazy good!  All loose powder should have a sifter that turns and locks like this one to avoid messes!

  • Lash Love Mascara – This was a good mascara that allowed for good separation, some volume, and a rich black color.  While $15 isn’t too expensive, I would say this is an okay price for a mid-range cosmetics company like Mary Kay when coupled with the product performance.  However, I also think that many mascaras are now overpriced since drugstore mascaras on average now cost around $10….end of the small rant.

  • Cream Eye Color in Apricot Twist – First off, I would like to say that I really enjoyed the formula of this cream eyeshadow, but like the lip gloss, this shade didn’t appeal to me.  This looked very orangey on my fair skin, which is something I have to really consider when looking for coppers and golds.  I would try out other colors, but this one won’t be doing much for me.  Something else I would like to mention is how application method affected the pigmentation of this product.  When applied with my fingers, the pigmentation was incredibly sheer….pretty much a slight golden shimmer.  Using the concealer brush really helped the eyeshadow apply with more pigment and also allowed for layering.  The $14 price tag on this seems somewhat overpriced since the formula can be relatively sheer, but I would be willing to try other colors in the line.

  • Gel Eyeliner with Expandable Brush Applicator – Okay, I will admit that I am not a gel or even liquid eyeliner fanatic.  For my eyes, I really like a more blended out liner look, so when I first saw this I thought, “Oh great, what am I going to do with a gel liner when I barely use the few I already have?”  Well, one day I decided to apply a thin line with the included brush, and then blend it out with a small smudger brush…and holy bananas I love it!  This is SO richly pigmented, very long wearing, and gives just the right amount of time to smudge out if desired.  I have been wearing this as my blended out black liner and love it.  It has even withstood the wear of moving in hot and humid weather.  Point for the MK gel liner J  I think $18 is more than I would like to pay for a gel liner, but if I couldn’t find a cheaper alternative to perform the same, I would definitely purchase this.  Also, I actually liked the small brush as well for thin or thick lines.

Influenster Violet VoxBox

Hey all!  At the beginning of the month, I received the Influenster Violet VoxBox.  Now for reference, this is a box of products I received from Influenster.  I did not pay for these, and I am not being paid to review these items.  Also, you do not have to be a beauty blogger or YouTuber to qualify for these boxes.  All you have to do is sign up at Influenster’s website.  You can review products on the site and get involved in other ways.  All these activities can lead up to you qualifying for a box!

I was super excited when I got an email telling me I was going to receive the VoxBox…I mean, who doesn’t love receiving free beauty products only to review.

So here it goes!  The items I received were the Goody Athletique Ouchless Headwrap, Sally Hansen Triple Shine in Blow Bubbles, SoyJoy bar in Dark Chocolate Cherry, Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Dry Shampoo, and the Montagne Jeunesse Clay Spa mask.  Whoa!  A lot of great products to try from a variety of brands!  My reviews on the individual products are below!

Sally Hansen Triple Shine in Blow Bubbles – I absolutely love the color of this.  I was so excited when I saw it because I once bought a lip gloss which looked just like this, but ended up being a disappointment due to lack of opacity.  Unfortunately this nail polish had the same disadvantage.  While the color is beautiful, and there is some extra shine in the formula, I was incredible disappointed with the opacity of the polish.  In the picture below, I had on 3 coats, and you can still see much of my nail.  I will use this again, but I will be layering it over another pink in order to get the opaque coverage I want for my nails.

Goody Athletique Ouchless Headwrap – I think this is a very cute and usable headband.  It’s made of moisture-wicking material, which makes it great for workouts.  My only issue with this is the same I have with all headbands, it slips off my head, which eventually leads me to take it off.  Other than this, I do like it.

SoyJoy bar in Dark Chocolate Cherry – So I really enjoy trying new nutritional bars because I’m someone that always needs to have a healthy snack on hand.  While I see the nutritional benefits of this bar, and the flavor wasn’t completely terrible once you know what to expect, I try to stay away from much soy products.  This is a personal health choice, and if you would like to know why I can tell you, but that’s all I’ll say for now!

Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Dry Shampoo – Holy moly!  I have not tried too many dry shampoos, and I also tend to be low maintenance with my hair….so I didn’t know I could like a dry shampoo so much.  By no means am I saying that this is a Holy Grail product, but I would be willing to purchase the full size with my own money.  I really enjoy the fresh scent and the way it soaks up extra oils without leaving a super gummy and yuck feeling in my hair.

Montagne Jeunesse Clay Spa Masque– This product did not impress me.  I feel like this is more of a product for the experience of feeling like you are pampering yourself, but I did not feel any benefits from using this.  Also, I am not much for cloth facial masks.  I don’t feel like my skin makes enough contact with the product, and then the benefits are even less.  I would not purchase this product.

I hope you liked my mini reviews!  Let me know if you have any questions!  Have a good holiday season!!!  Love to you all!
