Sultry, Affordable Valentines Day Look – Collaboration with the Giveaway Queen

It’s that time of the year again…..the time when people may be rushing around to find the best Valentines gift for their sweetheart and/or hating this days existence because it’s so hyped up and you have to shove so much romance into one day.

Well, my view on it is that it’s always nice to find another way to appreciate the person or people you love.  Yes, it may be over-saturated and there are people who wait all year to be the perfect significant other on just this one day…which frankly sucks…but I love Valentines Day.

So if you’re looking for the perfect look, whether it be more traditional sultry or colorful, you have come to the right place!  This post is a collaboration crossing beauty platforms!  I’m collaborating with the Giveaway Queen, or some of you may also know her as Naomi!  We are both doing a Valentines Day look so we got you covered.  This was so exciting because it is the first collaboration for both of us!

After looking through this, head on over to her video here.

Her look is going to be amazing!  Naomi’s beautiful!  And she’s got some especially beautiful brows and lips, and to top it off she’s super sweet, supportive, and funny.  You guys will love her 🙂

My look is more of a traditional sultry, bedroom eye.  I thought about adding lashes, but I thought, hey, if I was having a romantic date with my hubby, one of the last things I want to do is take the extra time to remove false lashes.

Close up..trying to do that whole “hey you over there” LOL

I used the NYX Butt Naked Eye Palette which contains 15 cool-tone eyeshadows, 4 blushes, 1 bronzer, and 2 highlighters.  This is a great option if you are wanting to get a lot for your money!  The palette costs $25 at UTLA.  I also use drugstore brow and lip products!  Keeping it affordable!

Re-Purposed Beauty: Face Primer

Last year I found a wonderful primer that seemed to make my skin look almost fake…THAT’S the level of perfect I’m talkin’ here people…I mean really.  When I had foundations that just didn’t work for me, enter this face primer…Too Faced Primed and Poreless Face Primer (angels singing).

Well, after continued use for a week or so, I noticed I was breaking out.  Now, I normally breakout out on regular basis because I deal with hormonal acne EVERY DAY, BUT this breakout was different.  The breakouts were small bumps (almost like milia) all over my face.

I knew my use of this primer had come to an end because this was the only thing that had changed in my skincare/face makeup routine.

The reaction breakout cleared up after I stopped using the primer all over, but then I had a deluxe sample of this great primer with no use for it.

Enter my undereye fine lines!

I have one distinct line under each eye caused just from the shape of my eyes, but I also have many other fine lines from squinting, former tanning, and many sunburns as a kid.  Well, my fine lines continued to standout throughout normal wear of concealer and powder, so I decided to try the Too Faced Primed and Poreless Primer under my eyes.

It smoothed out my fine lines, and helped reduce the dry, cakey appearance of my concealers.

face primer tip

Notice the lack of cakeiness(?) and fine lines!

So if you have a smoothing face primer that doesn’t work on your face for some reason, try it under your eyes!  There have been a couple undereye primers released within the last couple of years, and this trick may not only save you some money but also help you use up some products.  And who doesn’t love the satisfaction of using up a beauty product?!  I’m tellin’ you, it’s the small things in life LOL.

If you have a face primer that was intended for oil control, I don’t think this tip would help UNLESS you have really oily undereyes.

Anyway, I hope this was helpful!

Let me know if you try this and what you think!

Tips for AcryGel Nails

I published a blog post early last year with step-by-step instructions for at-home acrygel nail application, and it has been my most viewed post since!  I honestly can’t believe it!

acrygel nails

Acrygel nails with no polish.

So as I continued to do acrygel nails, eventually removed them, and have now started back on it again, I wanted to give some tip and tricks I’ve picked up through my own experience over the past year.

acrygel nails

Acrygel nails with polish on top.

Tip #1

Thinner layers work best.  If you are an advid nail product junkie or love glitter nail polish, you have probably experienced the satisfaction of a beautifully, gawdy, and tacky manicure that  you can’t stop staring at….until and edge gets bumped and the whole dang nail PEELS OFF!  I KNOW!  Just thinking about it makes me angry!

Anyway, the same can be similar for acrygel nails.  Much of that hard work will go to waste if you use many thick layers.  Try to keep the layers of acrygel as thin as possible.

Tip #2

Try one layer of the acrygel under the gel top coat.  My original post calls for two layers of the base coat with acrylic powder under the top coat.  I learned to that one layer of the acrygel nail combo was best to reduce the powder and gel from yellowing over time with wear.

This may not be as important to you if you plan to keep your nail painted all the time, but I found that it decreased the yellowing I was experiencing of the acrygel combo (NOT MY NATURAL NAILS), and also helped in relation to tip #1.

Tip #3

Try 2 layers of gel top coat.  After some more experimenting with number of layers and such, I decided to try 2 layers of the gel top coat.  When I used only 1 layer, there was still a slight gritty texture left from the acrylic powder…even though it was shiny.  I just didn’t like having that texture difference, so I tried two thin layers of the top coat, and it is wonderful!

Tip #4

Cap the nail tips, but not TOO thick.  Capping the nail tips will definitely help decrease shrinkage and lifting, BUT if done too thick, it may CAUSE lifting and subsequent peeling of your beautiful acrygel manicure.

Tip #5

Don’t buff your nails before application….or atleast not with every new application of the acrygel nails.  Now, I understand that this may be debated, but in my experience, the acrygel nails wore better and longer when I decided NOT to buff the top layer of my nail before application.  The last time I did acrygel nails, I would have to remove and reapply once a week because I had issues with lifting, so I couldn’t just refill.  This time, I am getting MUCH better wear, and I didn’t buff my nails first.

I would also like to point out that buffing my nails before every re-application was not a smart idea because it took away SO many layers of nail, and I already have thin, peeling nails.  When I finally removed the acrygel and decided to take a break from it, my nails were painfully thin….to the point where I didn’t put any pressure on them because I had buffed away so many layers over months of re-application.  THIS is why I chose to forgo the buffing when I started back up with acrygel nails, and it has been MUCH MUCH better in terms of wear AND nail health.

That’s it for now!  I hope this was helpful!  And like I mentioned before, these are just some tips I’ve come up with over time and my experience with acrygel nails.

Burt’s Bees Wild Cherry and Vanilla Bean Lip Balm Review

The Burt’s Bees Wild Cherry and Vanilla Bean lip balm flavors were released around the end of 2014.  Upon hearing about these new additions to the Burt’s Bees lip balm line, I was SO excited!

burt's bees wild cherry and vanilla bean lip balm

I love the original lip balm because of its thicker, balmy consistency and intense peppermint scent and flavor.  Since vanilla and cherry are some of my favorite scents for products, I instantly told my husband about this…hoping these may make an appearance in my stocking for Christmas.  Well they did!

After unwrapping these, I instantly started testing them out for the next few days.  The scent of these are right on point with the description.  Vanilla bean smells like vanilla, and the wild cherry smells like a cherry popsicle I used to eat as a child.

My conclusion is that companies should not be allowed to make lip products that taste like chemicals, ESPECIALLY if they smell SOOOO GOOD!

The taste was not the only thing about these I didn’t enjoy.  The consistency of the Burt’s Bees Wild Cherry and Vanilla Bean lip balms was very slick and greasy.  My lips felt even more chapped when using these because it just felt like slick and greasy with no moisturization properties.

Like most Burt’s Bees products, these lip balms are very natural (100% listed on the packaging).  They cost about $3 each.

If you are someone who enjoys a thin, slick, and/or greasy feeling lip balm, these may be for you.  However, remember that these taste like chemicals.  I don’t know if this is the majority experience as I haven’t read many reviews for these, but it was so bad my husband needed to drink water and rub his lip after kissing me and try the lip balms himself.  I felt the chemical taste was so intense that I drank water, rinsed my lips off with water, and continuously wiped them off for over 10 minutes, and the taste was STILL there.  I don’t recommend these lip balms.

If you’re interested in trying these for yourself, you can find them at drugstores, Burt’s Bees website, Walmart, Target, and Amazon here and here.
