Butter London Lippy Liquid Lipstick-Posh Pout Set Review

As many of us know, companies, beauty and otherwise, release a variety of box sets filled with multiple products at a more affordable cost per product.  Well, I haven’t been that impressed with some of the sets over the past couple of years, but this year, the Butter London Posh Pout set of Lippy Liquid Lipsticks caught my eye.

Not only was the price awesome, but the colors were also great!  Individually, a Lippy costs $18, and the Posh Pout set contains four full-size Lippy Liquid Lipsticks for $28.  So once ULTA started a 3X Bonus Points promotion on all purchases, I told my husband I would really like this as a Christmas present.

I was so excited when I unwrapped this on Christmas!  The colors are a beauty nude, coral, plum-mauve, and red, so there’s also a lot of versatility.

Anyway, I’ve been testing these out, and here are my thoughts.  The pros of the Lippy Liquid Lipsticks are good pigmentation and opacity, so you can wear these alone for a full color effect….because I am all about low maintenance lips!  These are also very shiny, as you can see in the pictures.  They are comfortable to wear on the lips.  The formula is thicker, but not super thick, goopy, and sticky, which is a plus.  Butter London also offers the Lippy Liquid Lipstick in a great range of colors.

Let’s talk about the colors for a minute.  The nude, Yummy Mummy, looks pretty intimidating as a very grey-beige, but it looks very natural and beautiful when applied to the lips.  However, those who look much better in warm tones may not appreciate the color as much as those who gravitate to cool tone lip colors.

Trout Pout is a wonderful coral that is neither too orange or red.  It brightens up my face and looks quite natural.

Toff is honestly the color I was most excited for, and thankfully, the one I enjoy the most.  Plum-mauve lips are just my power lip color.   I feel that I can pair them with just about anything, and I always feel confident when wearing the color.

Come to Bed Red is a beautiful cool-toned red, which can be sheered out or worn with full opacity.

Now, the not-so-great aspects of the Lippy Liquid Lipstick…the applicator does not pull out enough product without having to dip back in to the tube many times over to get enough to cover your lips…and I definitely do NOT have big lips.  My lips are full, but small if that helps.  Some people may also find these to be slightly sticky.  For reference, the Lippy Liquid Lipstick is not as sticky as a MAC lipglass.

And the biggest problem I have with these is the traveling.  These sink into lip lines TERRIBLY.  Even if you have plump, moisturized lips, these will find the tiniest hint of a line or crease in the lip to go to.  So from far away, these appear beautiful and shiny, but up close (as you can see in the pictures of lip and hand swatches) the lips looks quite odd.  This is the determining reason why I haven’t been using them much.   Now I still need to try these out over lip liner, but as mentioned before, I prefer a low maintenance lip.  I want to be able to swipe it on and go…not have to reline, fill in, and fuss with it.

If you’re interested in checking these out for yourself, you can find them at ULTA.
