Bare Escentuals Brushless Mascara Review

The Beauty Counselor 0

Oh mascara….I am forever in love with the hunt and testing of various mascaras promising new and different results based on the formula or brush…

So when I saw a video by Fleur DeForce raving about the Bare Escentuals Brushless Mascara, I added it to my wishlist.  I am not someone who just goes out and buys things without much thought and research into the quality and performance of whatever I may be buying.  After seeing her video, I started researching on MakeupAlley here and beauty blogs for reviews of this weird mascara.

Well, the reviews were split…some raved to the heavens about it, while others said it was the worst money spent…and on and on it went.

At some point Bare Escentuals (which is also Bare Minerals and Buxom) had a buy one get one FREE deal on this mascara.  While I know there was no reason for me to need two, this deal essentially made the cost $7.50 instead of $15…much more doable…so I ordered it.

I spent so much time trying this out, and I eventually came to my conclusion.  I would NOT recommend this mascara.  While I think the formula seems decent (from what I could get out and use), I think the “innovative” wand or brushless brush is not usable.  As you can see from the pictures included, the applicator is a plastic wand with grooves in it, which are supposed to distribute the mascara along the lashes.

Unfortunately, I could not get the mascara to come off on my eyelashes.  I tried the different tips and tricks given by those who have reviewed it on MUA and blogs….I blinked over the wand, I slid it up the lashes from root to tip, used the tip and grooves to at least get something on the lashes to further manipulate…but to no success.

Recently, It Cosmetics has released a tightline mascara, which is supposed to distribute the black pigment to the upper waterline to avoid the separate step of lining the upper waterline…so when I saw that, I figured this could give me a way to use the BE Brushless Mascara….but no.  The formula wouldn’t even apply to my upper waterline or lash roots.  So now I have an open one, and a brand new, in box BE Brushless Mascara.  I don’t often feel like I have wasted money on beauty products because of all the research before purchase, but this definitely feels like a waste….

…at least it was half price, right?

This is available only on the Bare Escentuals website here.
